The Bulova story starts with Czech immigrant Joseph Bulova in 1875 when he opens a small jewelry shop on Maiden Lane in New York. In 1911 Bulova starts manufacturing table clocks and pocket watches which are sold in large numbers. 1919 sees the introduction of the first full line of mens wrist watches, with 1923 seeing Bulova as the first watch company to introduce fully standardized watch parts. The standardization of watch parts revolutionizes the watch repair/service industry. 1927 is the year Bulova watch company lists on the stock exchange. 1935 Joseph Bulova, founder dies.

Bulova's main claim to fame is the production of the first fully electronic wrist watch, the Accutron. The Accutron is released in 1961 and improves the efficiency of watches to within 2 seconds in a 24 hour period. The Accutron used an electronic tuning fork as its mechanism to divide time, a revolutionary concept. The Accutron concepts were quickly surpassed by quartz crystal technology, but the Accutron had forever cemented its place in history. It also consequently cemented its place amongst watch collectors as a must have.

Bulova also worked with NASA to produce timing devices for the space program. Once such device, which help with the transmission of data, was left in the sea of tranquility on the moon by the crew of the Apollo 11 mission in 1969. The other aspect of Bulova is its clock making contributions, which include the first clock radios in 1928. In recent years Bulova has made the worlds slimmest clock 5/8 of an inch, the millennium watch collection and started to produce high quality wooden grandfather clocks.
